Cohort 11

Taccara Thomas

I always knew what I wanted to do in life, but being a part of Green City Force made me a better person. Not only did I become more energy efficient but I stand for it and I try my hardest to educate my peers about it. Green City Force taught me a lot about NYCHA and how they work, and now I appreciate the people that work for NYCHA. Before GCF I always cared about my community but actually making a difference and being hands-on with it made me care for my community even more. Before GCF I wasn’t doing anything. Even though I was looking for jobs, I didn’t have any luck. When I received that email that I got accepted to GCF it was honestly one of the best days of my life. The most important thing I learned during GCF was how much money NYCHA actually spends on electric bills, and the number is crazy, so knowing that I’m making a change in my community means a lot to me. After GCF I want to be employed with a good job. I want to get my license, buy a car, and just live life with GCF behind my back knowing that I can come back and still be wanted by the GCF family. I want to thank my Team Leader Shaneé for educating her team on different topics, and for telling me what I need to work on to be a better person in the work place. I also want to thank my good friend Chynell Barry for being there for me and for understanding me. She was my friend from the beginning to the end. I also want to thank my mom and my fiancé for making sure I get up in the morning early enough to make it in on time.
