The Blac Kitchen is a catering and pop-up restaurant that specializes in vegan, vegetarian and pescetarian menu options. At The Blac Kitchen we believe in the people and the planet which is why we’ve dedicated ourselves to being sustainable and morally responsible. With a soulful menu and clients that care about healthy eating, we strive to bring life to every table our food is at. Our slogan is “Life at the table” because life truly begins there, relationships are formed around food; communities flourish when healthy food is readily available and for us – that’s the best part of life.

My training and service at GCF prepared me for this role by instilling grit into my character. Before GCF I always dreamed of owning my own business but I was always scared of the responsibility. Now I feel empowered every day and at every event that I cater. I know that my passion and perseverance will ultimately lead me to success and that my willingness to work hard will never fail me.

My advice for current Green City Force Members: Give it your all. Do whatever it takes to make your dream come true and if you don’t know what your dream is, then do it anyway. It never hurts to have a support system when you finally realize that you want to do something amazing with your life.

My time in Green City Force has shown me the importance of grit, persistence, and support. Throughout my service, I have had the pleasure of connecting with communities and relaying to them the purpose of social advocacy and food justice. It has provided me with the means to project leadership and converse with community-based organizations about my skills and expertise. This program has shown me that I have the capacity to strive for higher goals and that with positive support from my team leader, director, and staff – I have the ability to achieve anything.
