Cohort 11

Sadiqua Minor

In December 2015 I was introduced to Green City Force. I was at a point in my life where I felt myself going down a dead end road. I was lost. During the info session, Lawrence spoke about the program and told us his story. However, what really interested me was when he began to speak about the benefits of Green City Force. That’s what I was there for, BENEFITS. Everyone loves benefits. 500 dollars twice a month, monthly unlimited MetroCard’s, and money for college upon completion of the program. I was sold! As time went on I grew to love the program and everyone in it. I was no longer attending for the benefits. I was attending because I wanted to, not because I needed to.

Picking up that phone and calling Lawrence has to be one of the best things I’ve done in life thus far. Green City Force has built my confidence level. It helped me out of my shell that I hid so quietly in for so many years. It taught me so much, in and outside of the business field. Most importantly I am happy with me and I have GREEN CITY FORCE to thank for that. I would like to thank the entire GCF staff for all of the help they’ve given me, but most importantly I would like to thank Lisbeth for being so open to reading my articles and supporting me with my dream of becoming a journalist. I want to thank Joi Rowe, Lawrence Harris, and Joshua Owens for motivating me to bring out my full potential, for never giving up on me even when I was falling off, for the wise words and kind actions, and for helping me better myself. These people helped transition me from a doubtful, weak-minded little girl to a courageous, confident, strong-minded woman! This experience is something that will always stick with me as I continue on my journey in life. I came in a loner and I’m now leaving a leader, and for that I am grateful!
