Walk The Talk: Cease the Grease

One thing YOU can do to help our Earth in 2018!

In NYC, stormwater is combined with household wastewater. On rainy days the sewers cannot meet capacity and NYC is forced to dump hundreds of millions of gallons of untreated sewage into local waterways. Grease and oils poured down the drain exacerbate Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) by clogging up pipes and sewers, and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) estimates that 62% of plumbing backups are caused by the build up of Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG). You can help by pledging to dump grease, oil and fats in the trash instead of down your household drains.

Take the pledge on Twitter or Facebook to #CeaseTheGrease in 2018!

Impact: Love Where You Live Corps

Green City Force’s Love Where You Live Corps serves to promote new sustainability initiatives in NYCHA developments, and is deployed to educate NYCHA residents about energy saving options, and citywide and NextGen sustainability initiatives.

Cohort 15 partnered with the NYC DEP to promote “Cease the Grease,” a public education campaign to stop grease from being poured down the drain and causing sewer backups.
