AmeriCorps Member Chantel Kemp serves in GCF’s Urban Farm Corps running and expanding the Farms at NYCHA. Meet Chantel in a day of service at Howard Houses Farm in this newly-released piece by Rise Up with Project Earth:

“Having a training program that’s saying, hey, this is where the money’s at, this is where you can be sustainable, and this is also a way that you can make a difference in your life and somebody else’s life…it’s invaluable.”

This video was made possible through our partner, ROOTS of Success, who connected us to Rise Up. Every one of our 15 cohorts has been instructed in the ROOTS of Success environmental literacy curriculum created by Dr. Raquel Penderhughes. The nationally renowned program provides fundamentals of sustainability which GCF integrates in both service and in career development.

Farms at NYCHA, is part of Building Healthy Communities, a city-wide partnership designed to improve health outcomes in 12 neighborhoods in New York City. See here for more info about the initiative and the partners that make it happen. Special thanks to our partners NYCHA and Isabahlia Ladies of Elegance Foundation for their part in the filming!
