Sabrina Simeon addresses the crowd at the Cohort 15 graduation.

Hello everyone,

My name is Sabrina Simeon and I want to talk you all about GCF’s pillar of service.

I’m so glad to be here today but I’m also surprised to be standing up here. Six months ago I would have never thought that I would have the courage to stand in front of you today. But I owe it all to the service I had at Green City Force. It was an amazing experience because I met so many people and it helped to push me out of my comfort zone. I would like to thank the Team leaders Rosalba and Precious who always went the extra mile even staying late on many occasion to help the team and provide extra hours. Their service helped to inspire me and I learned a lot from them.

Service means a lot to me because I did things I’ve never done before like speaking to residents and working with other organizations while also having fun. It made me feel like what we were doing was important and that it would be helpful to others. It’s basically what I wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to help people in their time of need, so I felt like I’ve reached a part of my goal. I also feel as if the service made us close like a family. If I’d have never went through with it, I wouldn’t have the met the people that are here with me today. We’re always checking up on each other and always there to help one another. To me service is like the foundation our Cohort is based on.
