This week marked the beginning of orientation for 24 new Corps Members. During a month of intensive training, these Corps Members will be introduced to the Green City Force culture and service model, fundamentals of eco-literacy, and the door-to-door energy auditing work that they will master over the course of six months of service, carried out through NYSERDA’s EmPower program and the Department of Energy’s WIPP program through Community Environmental Center.

The Winter 2012 Cohort includes representatives from Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx, all of them public housing residents between the ages of 18 and 24.

On Friday Corps Members participated in their first Community Meeting, a chance for reflection and the giving and receiving of feedback. This will be a weekly tradition throughout their six months of training and service.

We gratefully acknowledge the New York City Housing Authority and the Brooklyn Public Library for donating space for our orientation.
