GCF’s recent tenant education workshops – in which GCF Corps Members held energy efficiency-related info sessions at NYC public housing developments, sponsored by Enterprise Community Partners – was one of four resident engagement case studies highlighted at the workshop.

The project supported NYCHA’s Green Agenda, which seeks to engage NYCHA residents in adopting a low-carbon lifestyle. In addition to educating residents about how to reduce their carbon footprint through sustainable living decisions, it provided valuable outreach and communications experience to GCF Corps Members, all of whom are NYCHA residents.

NYCHA spearheaded logistics and scheduling. GCF Corps Members received training from Steven Winter Associates, adapted the Enterprise tool box to a NYCHA audience, and made presentations to residents in targeted developments. Additional presentations were made in partnership with Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation to homeowners in Cypress Hills.

The workshop was moderated by Mirele Goldsmith of Green Strides Consulting, an environmental psychologist who presented on theories of behavior change related to environmental activities. It was hosted by the Pratt Center as well as Enterprise Community Partners, the Supportive Housing Network of NY, the Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development, and LISC New York City.
