Green City Force’s Flagship Program: The Clean Energy Corps

Clean Energy Corps Members compare incandescent light bulbs and CFLs

Green City Force’s (GCF) Clean Energy Corps, based in New York City, combines national service and workforce development to lower energy consumption while providing urban young people with training and leadership opportunities related to greening the economy.

Corps members learn about the field of weatherization and energy efficiency up close, through serving the community. They contribute to reducing green-house gas emissions by improving energy efficiency in low-income homes and raising awareness about energy conservation. Corps members engage in a variety of activities, from painting reflective white roofs, to testing indoor air quality and performing community outreach.

Corps members receive training throughout the program through Green City Academy. Green City Academy provides corps members with a solid grounding in eco-literacy; job readiness; and technical training (provided by Solar One in the classroom and Community Environmental Center professionals in the field) focused on preparing for certification as weatherization technicians, but also covering eco-entrepreneurship. Corps members are exposed to a diversity of career paths related to greening the economy through our unique partnership with Community Environmental Center .

GCF’s Clean Energy Corps is a rigorous experience that  requires a full-time commitment from participants. Learn more about the major elements of GCF’s Clean Energy Corps program, Green Service and Green Jobs Training, before applying to the Corps here.
