“Cohort 11, it is very interesting. Did you know that in Numerology, the number “11” is the first master number? It is also known as “the illuminator”, “the messenger” and “the teacher”. We are under the influence of this master number. It is also said that those under the influence of this number are here to be inspirational guiding lights, and their mission is to bring illumination to others and to help raise spiritual awareness.

Each and every one of you has proved that you are “the illuminator” or “the teacher” but together over the course of six months you have also been “the messenger”. We have delivered many messages, from how to reach sustainability within the household to taking the steps necessary to help save the planet.

We are young people of color from different sections of the city that took up the banner of courage in our hands and waved it proudly.

However, there is one of the greatest messages that we have all overlooked. Turn to your neighbors, what do you see?

Though you may not see it, I can. We are young people of color from different sections of the city that took up the banner of courage in our hands and waved it proudly. We went out into foreign territories and kindled the hearts of those we interacted with. This was no easy task, but we did it together as a unit and that’s the most powerful message that we have ever sent out into the world and within ourselves.

Do you remember Lisbeth’s story of the mighty oak tree during orientation? I do. May I ask you all to stand up and hold hands? Staff and Corps Members alike, please. This acorn represented you at one point, just a seed. People walked by you, ignored you, and had no idea of how important you were to this world. Yet you still managed to exist, and with the help of Mother Nature along with experience…you all have grown into a forest of mighty oak trees.

You have locked your roots to stay strong when the storm approaches and have become the filter for our planet, reducing the carbon footprints of those who still don’t understand the value of another person or the influence they can have on the world.

Again, we have done the impossible, but what really matters is that we have done this together as a team.

Again, we have done the impossible, but what really matters is that we have done this together as a team. Though we are about to take the next step, our journey is far from over. You will branch out and network, build relationships and strong bonds will be formed, but you will still continue to grow until you touch the sky. You may even bear fruit and they will grow up and change the world like you have done or are still doing.

I thank you and acknowledge you all as phenomenal people, you have given me the experience of a lifetime. Although this is the beginning of a new chapter, I would like to say good luck to you all and “see you later”. I won’t say “Goodbye” cause that means forever, and I know we will meet again. Congratulations!!!”
